We also have members who get involved in producing, directing, set and prop making, costumes, sound & lighting, stagehand work, and more. Some people join Footlights simply to be part of something vitally important to our city and its communities. Benefits include ...

  • Monthly coffee morning
  • Free theatre tour for two people
  • Two tickets to Footlights productions (excludes family panto)
  • The right to attend and vote at our AGM and other meetings of members
  • Invitations to auditions for the four or five Footlights shows every year

Student Membership

Lifetime Membership

An honour awarded to members who have been with footlights for 50 years or more or who have made significant, substantial and lasting contributions to the charity.

Junior Membership

It's free to join as an under 18 and many young people appear in the cast of our pantomime and summer family show.  We also run a number of workshops.  We are not a drama school, but some of our juniors have gone on to win places at leading national drama schools.  Junior members must be nominated by a responsible adult and all communication will be through that adult.  We take safeguarding very seriously and provide chaperones at all rehearsals and performances involving young people. To help out backstage (props, scenery, technical) you must be age 16 or over.  Junior membership does not include the benefits of full adult membership listed above.

Staff Membership

All staff are automatically enrolled as a member of Footlights and enjoy most of the same benefits as adult membership, however they are not eligible to take part in footlights productions, or vote at the AGM, unless they have paid to join - which many choose to do!

Volunteer Membership

We have volunteering opportunities in our Front of House usher and coffee bar roles, as well as the vital role of chaperone. There is no annual subscription, as we are extremely grateful for the time our volunteers give to the theatre,  although many do choose to join and become paid-up members of Footlights.

Benefits of volunteer membership include ...

  • Monthly Footnote email newsletter
  • Monthly coffee morning
  • Free theatre tour for two people
  • Two tickets to Footlights productions (excludes family panto)

More about Volunteering

Volunteering in any organisation is an opportunity to give something back, to contribute time and skills to something worthwhile that benefits others. While not financial, the rewards in terms of wellbeing, purpose, participation, developing skills, and self-confidence are significant. Here at the Grand, our volunteers perform important roles in helping to ensure our visitors experience the highest levels of customer service and safety. By giving their time to vital front and back of house roles, they help the charity achieve its objectives and ensure the theatre remains operational now and for generations to come.

Front-of-House Volunteers

These volunteers ensure our audiences are safe and enjoy the highest standards of customer service through their visit. Roles include ushering and coffee bars. All new volunteers will be given an induction package, training and support, which includes:

  • Our History and Values
  • Customer Service
  • Health & Safety
  • Fire Safety
  • Safeguarding
  • Specific training related to ticket scanners and point-of-sale devices

Chaperone Volunteers

At least two of our Footlights productions, the family show in the summer and the pantomime in December, have a number of children in the cast and these young actors and dancers have a wonderful time. Licensed chaperones ensure we meet children in entertainment licensing conditions and provide high standards of safeguarding during rehearsals and performances.
